Kisi
Brand Identity & Onboarding
After interning with Kisi through the Brooklyn Tech Triangle Internship Program, I continued working with them to develop the brand identity, improve manufacturing consistency, and user guides. Kisi is a smartphone based access control startup that wanted to increase it's relatability and cool factor. We developed an alternate logo symbol, expanded their color palette, and created over 100 icons and illustrations to help with product usage. As the business grew, I also created branded merchandise, partnership/integration platforms, and collaborated on web design and UI for both desktop and mobile apps.
In the early years of Kisi, I made significant contributions to the onboarding process by focusing on the installer/user experience. My main goal was to address the main pain points faced by installers and optimize their overall experience. To achieve this, I systematically organized these pain points and created a detailed spec sheet containing helpful hints tailored specifically for installers.
Furthermore, I played a pivotal role in enhancing the instructional material by making copy updates and adding new information to the manual. The manual underwent a reprint for improved clarity and to ensure that it was user-friendly. For office buildings, I crafted leave-behinds that were specifically designed to extend awareness beyond the installation process.
To ensure that our approach to onboarding was comprehensive, I conducted a thorough review with the team. This review helped us refine the design and ensure its accuracy. Subsequently, I initiated the rollout of onboarding packets, which were seamlessly integrated with each hardware device.
All of these efforts helped to streamline the onboarding process, enhance user understanding, and improve satisfaction levels.
As part of my work on Kisi's Visual Identity System, I was responsible for expanding the design while still retaining the core elements of the existing brand. To enrich the overall visual experience, I introduced new design elements that would make it more engaging for users. One of my primary contributions was refining the brand and packaging consistencies by creating comprehensive guides and usage protocols. This approach not only broadened the visual identity but also ensured a harmonized and cohesive representation across various touchpoints. As a result, the visual identity system improved and became more cohesive, retaining the essence of the brand while also meeting contemporary design standards and elevating the overall user experience.
At Kisi, the design process involved streamlining design elements across various physical and digital products. I played a key role in spearheading the design for installation guides and usage materials, which resulted in a 20% increase in productivity for New York City installations. Furthermore, our efforts to diversify user profiles and enhance feedback mechanisms led to a remarkable 100% increase in user profile diversification and overall satisfaction. This multifaceted approach to design highlighted its crucial role in not only unifying the visual elements but also in significantly improving the functionality and user experience across different aspects of Kisi's offerings.
